My new front door (color)!

Remember the before...
Here is the after...
I love it!!!
IloveitIloveitIloveit!!!
I went with the darker of the two colors and I'm so glad I did. I wanted a color lighter than the forest green that was already there but not so light that it looked white in the sunlight and also something with just a hint of blue in it. This one was perfect! And it really is no surprise. Once I finished the painting I started noticing the same color in the rug on the inside of the door and in the mat on the outside and even the hanging decoration next to it. Oh, and hello rainy blog background! Hmmmm... I guess I like this color!

Even Sean, who is color blind, said he liked it and described it as a soft color. I have to agree, I love the way it softens the look of the house. I wish I could show you the whole front, but I'm still trying to be mindful of internet safety. We had planned to add a kick plate in the same finish as the handle to the bottom but I don't think we will now. It would cover up all that pretty color! Sean pointed out that we don't ever really kick our door in, which is true.

Oh, and I'm thinking I might try a small planter next to the rocking chair of something that hopefully won't fry in the sun. Remember, this area gets very direct very late afternoon to evening full west sun. Any suggestions?

UPDATE: And tonight, after one night in the heat, we have bubbles in the paint. I am so mad! They got bigger as the door got hotter and then went back down after the door cooled. I still love the color but I just can't figure out what's making this door act this way. I'm going to watch them and see what happens. It was on a part of the door that I hadn't scraped the old paint off of completely, just sanded it down. I'm wondering if there is a layer of something painted deep down on the door that is prone to bubbling because the new section I painted where I had scraped off all the old paint didn't bubble. Hmmmmm..... I hate to think that I might have to completely strip the door and start all over again! If that's what has to happen it will have to wait until the fall.

  1. It looks great! It matches the color of that mug on your wind chime, too!

That's frustrating that the paint already bubbled. I'd ask someone from where you brought the paint if they have any thoughts on why it bubbled.

    1. Every paint professional has told me "it wasn't primed properly". That's why I primed over the whole thing myself and then even used a paint+primer kind of paint. I'm starting to suspect that it's a layer that's further down that needs to come off and that means stripping the whole door. That's just too big of a job to do right now and for just a few little bubbles. If lots more show up, I will probably end up stripping the whole door this fall.

  2. Did you seal over the paint? Just a thought. We have always had afternoon sun facing doors and that has been crucial.

    1. I used an exterior paint. What would I seal it with?

  3. Such a beautiful color! I love it too and I'm very sorry you're already having problems with it bubbling. Our front faces west and gets VERY hot so I'm afraid of the same issues. So far, so good though it's only white. :-)
    Blessings,

  6. For your full sun planter, I cringe even suggesting it, but there are some top notch fake flowers or plants that look really good. Blue greens are my favorite too!

    1. Hah! I asked my mom (who is an amazing gardener) what I should put in that spot and she said, "Something fake." :)
