Looking for a cookbook (or books) with cuisine from different countries that would be easy enough for my 11 and 13 year old to make. Suggestions please...
I received this cookbook for a shower gift when I was married: http://www.amazon.com/Betty-Crockers-International-Cookbook-Crocker/dp/0394504534 I don't have it anymore or I would mail it to you, but if you can get a cheap used copy, I think you would find it worth it. I don't remember many recipes from it but I know I used it.
I used The Multicultural Cookbook for Students with my children while studying different countries. The authors are Albyn and Webb. I found it through our library system.
Growing up, I learned much about food, recipes, nutrition, and culture from a 4-H Project, Around the world with food. If you google "around the world with food" there are several good links to get you started. The reading list for the WSU.edu .pdf file "Guidelines for Food Around the World" that comes up is full of great suggestions for book titles that are age appropriate.
The American Girl cookbooks come to mind. For example, the Kirsten one has recipes from Sweden. Browse through your library catalog- They may surprise you! I searched my library (in Red Wing, MN) and found two series on international cooking for kids, plus many individual cookbooks. The one series is "Cooking the ______ Way," another is "Young Chef's ____Cookbook." Hope this helps!

We love Passport on a Plate too and my (5 under 8 years of age). I found it for $1 at a used book store, but I think our library carries it too if you do not want to have another cookbook on your shelf! Good luck- I hope you blog about some of your recipes. We love "cooking" our through Geography!

The best recipes in the world by bittman is a fun book to have. I find him easy to follow b/c he is not a chef, just a home cook.
ReplyDelete"Around the World Cookbook for Young People" by Mildred O. Knopf. I found this gem at a thrift store, but I'm sure you could find a used copy online.
