Seeing everyone else's beautiful sinks inspired me to make mine beautiful too. I don't have a before picture to show you, but one of the things I hate about my kitchen sink area is the warped wood on the bottom of the bay window. I have painted this area many times, but the wood underneath is so warped that chunks of paint sometime come off. Other patches are rough, not smooth under the many coats of paint. I'm pretty sure it's water damage from a previous owner, but I have no way to fix it right now. Ideally, I would love to replace it when we finally replace the countertops, but that project is just not feasible at this moment. In the meantime, I used some shelf liner that my mom gave me to hide it. I think it did the trick!
I am going to hunt for a pretty soap dispenser like Auntie Leila recommends. I need one that isn't breakable because of our porcelain sink. When thinking of things pretty and functional, I decided to set out my favorite matroyshka measuring cups instead of hiding them in the measuring cup basket. These actually aren't that great as measuring cups because they don't have handles so I inevitably end up with flour or sugar all over my hand, but they are super cute and cheerful and are there in a pinch if I need them.
The blue bottle on the end is a color that just makes me smile and the smaller vase is from the studio of one of the dads in our homeschooling group. I don't know that he made it himself or if one of his amazingly talented friends did, but I like knowing it's connection.
Good night and sweet dreams of shiny sinks!
I love your window ledge -- that's one thing I wish I had. Pretty clean sink, Charlotte.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the ledge, I just hate the bubbled texture and the chipping paint. But I get a view of my kiddos playing outside and that is priceless!
ReplyDeleteI think your sink is wonderful and your window is so big!
ReplyDeleteYou know, if you cut a piece of plywood the right shape, you could just put it on top of what you have. You could put molding around it and voila! Anyway, that's what I'd do, only I can't really see it so I don't really know what I'm talking about! :)
Very pretty, neat and clean spot. I know what you mean about an unbreakable soap dispenser, by the way. I've had mine for decades -- it was brought by a friend from an Alaskan cruise. It's heavy pottery. I had replaced it for a while with a really fancy Pier One ceramic one, and that didn't last long!
God bless!
It all looks so pretty!! And I LOVE the measuring cups!! Those are SO cute!!
ReplyDeleteThose matreshkas are great and the statue of the BVM is lovely. I don't know if there is such a thing as "unbreakable". We just have the stainless steel sink and a heavy ceramic soap dispenser which DH dropped. The plastic pump on top is what broke!
ReplyDeleteI think your sink looks great! I love the blue light hanging down and the measuring cups.
ReplyDeleteWow, it turned out great. I'm always re-arranging my sink area for inspiration while washing all those pots and pans. I had my son make me a make shift shelf out of the flooring that was left over after they did my hall! I love your Mary. Right now I simply have a small picture of St. Anne holding Mary.
ReplyDeleteGreat Job! Enjoy.
I love looking at all these sinks! I actually looked at every single one. =) Your window sill is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOh, Charlotte ... I love it! We used to have a porcelain sink growing up and I miss the deepness and beauty of the ivory! Oh well ...
ReplyDeleteBut thanks for the link to the Matroyshka measuring cups ... I think those are going in my stocking this year ... I have a collection of Matroyshkas and these will mean I can have a set in my kitchen!
God's many blessings and hugs ....
I think it is set up so pretty. I love that statue and that blue light. I also wanted lights like that but would not know where to put them in my kitchen. Blue is my favorite color.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, I love your wide ledge!
ReplyDeleteI don't think i would ever want to share my kitchen! lol, Even just the kitchen sink! Yours is lovely. I had to say that those measuring cups have been on my wishlist forever and was thinking I might have to get them as my Christmas gift to myself!
ReplyDeleteLove the measuring cups. Good use of something too cute to get rid of but not practical for using. Great sink area!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I'm not surprised Charlotte, you have such an eye for beauty.
ReplyDeleteI, too, really like your measuring cups there!
Those are the cutest measuring cups EVER. Even if you do get flour all over your hands. :)
ReplyDeleteLeila's party inspired me to go get a soap dispenser. I have some "discretionary" money right now and decided that was a good thing to spend it on! It isn't in my picture because I bought it today, but it really makes a difference! All that to say, I encourage you to actually do it. :)
Beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteLinking up from Like Mother, Like Daughter.
Have a lovely week, Tamara
Lovely sink/sill ... love the touch of blue. May I make a suggestion for the soap dispenser? (Stumbled upon it while looking for homemade gift ideas for kids) Get one of those plastic soap dispensers used for anti-bacterial soap .. peel/scrape off the plastic name brand sticker .. put your own stickers or cut outs .. modge-podge it .. varnish .. and voila! Your own unbreakable customized dish soap dispenser! Janice in Sacto
ReplyDeleteLove the Russian doll measuring cups - I bought the same ones to give my god-daughters for Christmas!
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! The measuring cups are adorable if not functional. I think the shelf liner is a creative solution.
