The Evolution of a Cookie

(in pictures)

(The boys took charge of the sprinkles but I wasn't fast enough to snap a picture.)

  1. You've got some great decorators on your hands. I'm now desperately wanting a cookie cake. I'll have to drop some hints to my husband and kids and see if one lands in front of me for my birthday tomorrow.

  2. I've always wanted to do one of these! Could you share the recipe? The "experienced" baker in me knows that you can't just use a regular cookie recipe.... the middle would never bake properly!

What an awesome Mother's Day dessert!

  3. Um, Nutmeg, using a regular cookie recipe is exactly what he did, we didn't have special instructions for cookie cakes. This was the first one Husband had ever made. He used his "Super Secret Daddy's Only" cookie dough recipe, lined my largest cake pan with parchment paper, patted the dough in thinly (maybe 1/2 an inch) and then baked it for about 30 minutes at the temperature the recipe called for. It was thoroughly cooked in the center and only slightly browned on the edges. It held together well enough for him to flip it out of the pan and onto the platter. We let it cool overnight and the kids decorated it the next day. I'll ask Husband if his recipe is any kind of special recipe, but I think it's just a basic chocolate chip cookie recipe he found online.
