All Souls Display

I have posted before about the mantle piece I made for the Month of the Holy Souls a couple of years ago. This year, the mantle was decorated early, since our dear friend, Fall, arrived a little ahead of schedule, and I really liked it so we decided to move our Holy Souls display to the learning room. I'm not sure if I like the new location better. We get to see both side of these beautiful old funeral cards but it feels a little awkward to say our evening prayers in there so I'm still undecided as to the permanence of this move.

Why don't they make beautiful funeral Mass cards like this anymore. Someone should! I bet there would be serious demand for antique looking Mass cards. I have some that date back to 1927 and they are just gorgeous with their muted colors, sepia tones, stirring prayers and somber black edges. Just wanted to share some with you...

  1. This is a beautiful idea! What a great way to contemplate the funeral Mass cards one collects...and pray for the dear ones who have gone.

Your mantle so inspired me that we began our own...it's such a lovely tribute and really provides the perfect setting for our evening prayers. Your pictures are lovely...

  6. I so love this idea. Anything we can do to keep our departed loved ones in our minds and prayers -- but esp in November.

  7. Those old cards are beautiful... what treasures to pass down through the family! Are the candles sitting on aluminum foil? I can see they are reflecting off the surface which is really pretty!!

  8. Yes, it's just tin foil. I taped it down to protect the surface.
