Our dog (for a day)

Isn't he cute?

He really is a sweetheart. We considered adopting him. We even had the application approved and the home visit completed. He came to spend a few hours with us yesterday and the girls had fun chasing him around the back yard and petting him and being on the slobbery end of his sweet kisses. The boys...well...

My oldest obsessed worried about whether or not he was being eaten alive by fleas and my youngest spent the entire time locked in my room after we pried him off of Husband's head. He was terrified of this sweet dog and in the 3 hours that he was here, he never became even the tiniest bit more comfortable.

So, our adventures in finding a pet are put on hold for now. I know that given a few more days or weeks BigBoy might have grown comfortable enough to be in the same room with Wyatt but we couldn't take that chance. Eventually, Husband would have to go to work and I would have to take over as the human tree. We consoled the girls by reminding them that a new baby would be just as slobbery and smell much nicer. (That is NOT an announcement, just a desire!)

In the meantime, if anyone is looking for a cute, cuddly, fun, loving black and brown cocker spaniel, I can tell you where to find one!

  1. I'll say this about the pup and the boy... our boys were petrifide of the dogs for a good while, but all turned out fine! It just takes time. My humble opinion would be pick a dog/pet that YOU think is right and allow the time for him to warm up to it! Just my 2 cents!

  2. I think the difference is that you had your dogs before the boys came along. We (the grownups) were not wanting a dog for us but for the children. Since only one of them was comfortable with him (Sunshine) and the others ranged from a little uneasy (Shortcake) to very nervous (The Professor) to utterly terrified (BigBoy), we felt it was the right decision to send him back to his foster family. And even though Shortcake was sad to see him go, everyone is 100% OK with the decision.

  3. AWWWWW! He is cute!
I am sorry he was afraid of him.

I am very cautious around dogs, although we have 1 (and had 2 others). I understand because I was very afraid for a long time (bite in the face when I was around 4).

It can work but you will know what is going to work/what won't.

  5. Shelly,
I know what you mean. I thought the same thing, but then I started asking questions and come to find out, they really did have some good reasons. They mostly want to check to make sure that you have a solid fence to contain the dogs because most dogs they rescue are dogs that get away from their homes. They want to make sure that they won't have to re-rescue anyone that they have adopted out.

Now, that being said, yes...some of these people are a little looney in the head! : )

  6. anyway - the pup was adorable. too bad it didn't work out.

if i were you... i'd try a Golden [retriever, that is]. they are the best family dog. there should be some Golden Rescue groups around there if/when you are ready for the dog thing again...

    just a suggestion ;)
