Cappuccino Mousse for a Capuchin

His real name is St. Pio of Pietrelcina, but he will always and forever be Padre Pio to so many who love him!

According to the Oxford English Dictionary and the American Heritage Dictionary, the cappuccino was so named because its color resembles the brown color of the robes worn by the Capuchin order of Franciscan friars. Others say it is because of the cappuccio or hood of the friar's robes. Today, we are serving Cappuccino Mousse in honor of our favorite Capuchin. I know it isn't authentically Italian, but it has coffee in it! Doesn't that count? And don't worry if you don't have strawberries, you can dip anything in this delicious cloud of coffee and cream; graham crackers, lady fingers, your fingers.

For those people who didn't get a chance a to read it last year, click on the link and read the story of what this amazing man did for one little girl who I had the honor and privilege of knowing for just a little while. When I think about the number of people this saintly man touched in life and after death, it fills me with hope. Padre Pio, pray for us!

Coloring pages for today can be found here.

  1. My boys are loving the saint coloring pages you've created... on Padre Pio, though, they have added a halo of their own design... but the pages are a great success over here!

See you this afternoon for Signing Times!

  2. While the children were working independently I was searching for something else to do to celebrate St. Padre Pio's feast day today--then I came across your site. The Cappuccino Mousse sounds delicious and the pictures you drew are incredible. I can't even write neatly much less draw a decent picture. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.

I also read the story you posted last year about the little
girl--I cried my eyes out. What a beautiful story. We love the story of Padre Pio. Every year on his feast day the children look forward to watching the video and reading the book--it's a rather long one so we have to split it up over several days. Some of the things in the movie don't match up with the book but it's still a good story. I hope you don't mind if I link your post to my blog. Thanks.

    God bless,

    Becki

P.S. Do you still live in Texas?

  3. Mommallama,
I never know what to do when I have a picture of a saint without a halo, if I should add one or not. I think I will stay true to the originals and let the kids be as creative as your boys and add them if they want to! See you this afternoon!

    Becki,
Please feel free to link away. I am sorry to have made you cry. I still get goose bumps when I remember that whole event. The Cappuccino Mousse is delicious and yes, we are in Texas. Are you?

    Have a good day!

  4. Yes, we live in Texas, too--about an hour outside the capital city of Austin. Where abouts are you located?

We just finished making the mousse and it's in the fridge now. The boys and I tasted some of what was left in the pot and it was delicious!!! This will be a favorite we add to the books to come back to every year!!!

    Pax Christi.

  5. What an amazing and beautiful story of the miracle baby and Padre Pio. Who can doubt the powerful intercession of saints after reading that story? Truly inspiring.

  7. You site is great. I was reading the post on Cappuccino Mouse and the Capuchins and thought you'd be interested in a book my dh wrote: Why Do Catholics Eat Fish on Friday by Michael Foley. It is about the Catholic origin to everyday things, including cappuccino.

    Happy Ember Friday!

  8. I actually have your husband's book sitting right here on my shelf but I must admit that I haven't read it yet. My husband has (it was a gift for him) and he really enjoyed it. Thanks for the reminder. I'll go put it at the top on my reading stack!
